THE PURPOSE OF THE CROSS

Galatians 1:4

On the great day of atonement, the High Priest slew the sacrifice and sprinkled with blood everything in
the tabernacle. The blood on the seat meant atonement for sin, and mercy and grace for the worshipper.
The blood over the broken law where the mercy seat rested meant that the demands of justice for a broken
law was being satisfied, and that God and sinner
had been reconciled, and the sinner could now come into
the presence of God in peace. So it is in the Cross of Jesus Christ. When He died on the cross, He opened
up a new and living way unto Christ.  Hebrews 10:19 20.

1. THE PURPOSE WAS TO REDEEM US FROM ALL INIQUITY - TITUS 2:14

The Blood of Christ redeems us for all iniquity.
1. Iniquity includes condition of the heart, whereas sin is the transgression of the Law, or the deeds committed.
Note the two in Romans 3:19-18.
2. When Christ redeems us from all iniquity, He gave us a new nature. I Corithians 5:17.

2. THE PURPOSE IS THAT HE MIGHT BRING US TO GOD - I Peter 3:18

1. He brings us to God, not as criminals, but as the sons and daughters of God.  Romans 8:29.    2. He brings us in proper knowledge of God.  John 1:18 & 6:44-46.  He brings us into favor with God.

3. THE PURPOSE IS TO BRING US INTO SONSHIP WITH GOD

We are familiar with adoption in human relationships.  By nature, a child has no claim until adopted.

4. THE PURPOSE WAS THAT HE MIGHT DELIVER US FROM THE PRESENT EVIL WORLD

1. As long as we are in this body, we are going to be subject to temptations, hardships of this hostile world. II Timothy 2:12; John 15:18-19.  Note the prayer of Jesus.  John 17:15.
